Picture Perfect Competition #4: NOSTALGIC

It's Week 4 of the PICTURE PERFECT winter competitions. This week our host is Gary The Gator, whose chosen theme is 'NOSTALGIC'.  Had to do a little bit of lateral thinking on this one.

My photo, taken in 2007, is of a group of old soldiers on an outing to the nearby seaside town of Saundersfoot. Their conversations, reminiscing about 'the old days', was definately nostalgic. I made it sepia to enhance the feel of nostalgia.

    1. Thanks Danette :-)). I lost a lot of detail of the background (the sea) when I applied the sepia, so I had to play with the contrast and sharpness some. You can see a little bit of detail now.

  9. Wouldn't you love to know what these old soldiers were talking about...I'm sure a bit of history was told with each other over some great memories. They were part of a great generation . Love this capture..it feels so spontaneous !

    1. Thanks Catherine :-)) The shot itself WAS spontaneous, I came across them quite by accident while I was out with my camera, and just had to get a couple of candid shots!!

  11. This is a great one, Mitch. These men must be in their 80's and 90's by now. Reliving their memories of that time would be bittersweet, I'm sure. Excellent photo.

    1. Thanks Harriet :-)) Yes, some are happy to discuss their memories, other stay tight-lipped. I guess some have seen things that they would rather not remember.

  12. Aww that's cool! I shot the WWII veterans when they came to DC last year for a friend of mine, his dad was there. He says his dad still asks after me because I made him feel like a rock star! I love our veterans! http://muzenews.ning.com/profiles/blogs/ppwcw4-nostalgic
