Picture Perfect Competition #5: Under Construction
It's Week 5 of the PICTURE PERFECT winter competitions. This week we welcome back Cherie as host. Her chosen theme is 'Under Construction'.
Not an easy theme, as I rarely take photos of things being built or made, I'm more into nature photography. There was, of course, one notable exception. This shot was taken in the graveyard of St Paul's Chapel, New York, looking towards the Ground Zero site. I took it in April 2010, just as the steelwork for the new towers was starting to emerge from the foundations. I believe the headstone in the foreground was one damaged by falling debris as one of the towers fell on that fateful day. I call the shot 'Phoenix Rising'.

DeleteI agree, great shot,
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy :-))
DeleteWell done indeed Mitch. Me thinks that will take a lot of beating. LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks Shayna, but there are a lot of talented photographers take part in PP :-))
DeleteI would have stopped and taken a shot there too Mitch...this is a very poignant reminder and your shot is now a piece of the history surrounding the Rise of this New Phoenix. Well Done!
ReplyDeleteThanks Milli. It was difficult to believe I was actually standing next to the place where those awful events had taken place. I'd like to return there to see the progress. I understand the 'Freedom Tower' already dominates the NY skyline, even though it's not yet completed.
DeleteA shot that is not only excellent but also with historic significance...
ReplyDeleteThanks Belita :-))
DeleteThis is a visual timeline of the past, present and what will be in the future at this historic location . I love the layers in this photo. Beautifully captured!
ReplyDeleteThanks Catherine :-))
DeleteNice shot, Mitch and well chosen.
ReplyDeletevery interesting view, lots to see in the photo besides the construction
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynda.
Deleteperfect in every way...you have captured many elements in just one photo!
ReplyDeleteMany things in this photo
ReplyDeletethat represent a horrible event.. The
grave yard and the new tower. Perfectly
named..very well done...
Thanks Sue. It was a strange feeling standing there. Despite the noise of the construction of the new towers, and the nearby NY traffic, there was a stillness and silence that's hard to describe.
DeleteNow that's a pretty cool shot :) And I love the view through the trees!
ReplyDeleteHi Mitch! ~waving & smiling~
