Picture Perfect Competition #5: Under Construction

It's Week 5 of the PICTURE PERFECT winter competitions. This week we welcome back Cherie as host. Her chosen theme is 'Under Construction'.

Not an easy theme, as I rarely take photos of things being built or made, I'm more into nature photography. There was, of course, one notable exception. This shot was taken in the graveyard of St Paul's Chapel, New York, looking towards the Ground Zero site. I took it in April 2010, just as the steelwork for the new towers was starting to emerge from the foundations. I believe the headstone in the foreground was one damaged by falling debris as one of the towers fell on that fateful day. I call the shot 'Phoenix Rising'.  Phoenix Rising

  2. I would have stopped and taken a shot there too Mitch...this is a very poignant reminder and your shot is now a piece of the history surrounding the Rise of this New Phoenix. Well Done!

    1. Thanks Milli. It was difficult to believe I was actually standing next to the place where those awful events had taken place. I'd like to return there to see the progress. I understand the 'Freedom Tower' already dominates the NY skyline, even though it's not yet completed.

    1. Thanks Sue. It was a strange feeling standing there. Despite the noise of the construction of the new towers, and the nearby NY traffic, there was a stillness and silence that's hard to describe.
