Thursday's theme at NatureFootstep is 'Winged'. For all things 'winged', but not necessarily 'feathered' (flying insects are welcome!!)
NatureFootstep is going on holiday for the next three weeks, so NF posts will resume in early September.

Excellent macros. Almost more than I wanted to know/see about the little creatures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan :-)) They are fascinating creatures!!
DeleteAwesome shots of this gorgeous winged critter!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gunilla :-))
DeleteIt is exciting to see how close you are - excellent pictures!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ulla :-)) When they are sitting in the sun, these dragonflies don't seem to mind me getting really close.
Deletegreat shots of the Ruddy Darter. I was not sure mine was a ruddy but I was told it was. These guys are not easy to ID:. :(
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing :)

Thanks Gabi :-))
Deleteawesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks Danette :-))
DeleteFabulous macros, as always, Mitch! I really admire your skill. In Hungary, I saw a big dragonfly and tried to take a photo. The result was very bad, and I realized how much uncommon skill you have... All the three are awesome but the middle one is my favourite, perhaps for the fine detail and the angle...
ReplyDeleteThanks Belita :-)) As with any insect macros, it involves a lot of patience, knowing the best places to find them, and a little bit of luck, too!!
DeleteLovely detail mate all beautifully captured, I am only on here now for our competitions, I still think it was the best place to move to but except for the competitions I find it dead, I have all my contacts on Facebook, not my first choice but its where a majority of my friends camp out! Go figure!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Baz :-))
DeleteFacebook is one place you'll never find me. I know just about every person I've ever met online is probably on there, but I hate the place with a vengeance. Too many trolls and undesirables. I'm happy here on Blogger.
awesome photos Mitch-I love dragonflys
ReplyDeletetotally amazing, I have always wanted to capture one with my camera, we have blue ones here ,never seen a red/brown one, it is beautiful
ReplyDeleteThanks Eevee :-)) Best time to catch them is when they are torpid. Either early morning, before they've had a chance to warm up, or later afternoon when they need to rest after a lot of flying around. These guys were all lined up on a wooden fence resting in the afternoon sun.
DeleteThank you for fabulous pictures, amazing blog and your comment. I read them with great joy :) So many of us cling to our blogs, and enjoy contact to the world, as I have been doing.

Thanks for visiting and for your comment :-))
DeleteI am amazed that she didn't fly away from your camera!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend. Mitch :)
Hi Sophie. They were too busy soaking up the sun to be bothered by me :-))
DeleteFaszinating dragonfly! Such gorgeous shots!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary :-))
DeleteHi Mitch, just peeking in on my friends. It has been quite a while since I have been online. Love your photos.
ReplyDeleteHuggles.
Hi Shayna!! Good to see you again. Thanks for dropping by :-))
Deletewow I'll never know how you manage to get close enough to do those macro shots, this one is really excellent. Being a little ignorant in some areas, I thought it was a dragonfly, but judging from the title I guess its not, or maybe it is, I'm not sure except that i didn't think dragonflys cam in that colour. I love the way you have captured the lace effect of the wings, utterly gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThanks Loretta :-)) It is a dragonfly. This particular variety are usually quite common in this area, but they have been very low in numbers this year. These shots were taken a couple of years ago.
DeleteWhen they have expended energy flying they usually have to rest in the sun for a while, to 'recharge' so to speak. They become rather slow and torpid, so you can get quite close without them flying away.
thanks for the info................I learned something today, I never knew dragonlies came in red.
Deleteand..............just wanted to say thanks for providing the follow by email option, I wish every one did, it makes life so much easier.
I wasn't sure if anyone actually uses it, but I thought I'd put it on my page just in case :-))
