Ladybirds (ladybugs) used to be one of the commonest sights of the British summer, but in the last few years they seem to have become increasingly rare. This is the only one I saw this past summer

  4. awesome photo, Mitch....perhaps they seem to be rare there because of the old verse: "Lady bug, lady bug fly away home
    your house is on fire
    your children alone!"

  5. True, I don't see so many in the garden as I used to and they are so useful eating the aphids.

  6. En fantastiskt fin närbild av nyckelpigan (med ett litet hjärta på till och med). I år har det varit ont om nyckelpigor här i Ösmo.

  8. Reading the above comments, I think I can say ladybugs have immigrated to Portugal. In summer, I saw these gardener's best friends in several gardens... Excellent shot!

  10. As a child we had an ongoing contest who could find the ladybug with the largest number of dots on the back! In California we didn't see them that much (maybe too hot and dry?)

    1. Yes, it might have been the wrong climate for them, but I'm not sure.
