It was with much sadness that I heard about the passing yesterday of my good online friend Charlie Wildgoose.

I have known Charlie since the days of Yahoo 360. His love and knowledge of the Derbyshire countryside knew no bounds, and I always enjoyed his walking blogs. I had hoped to meet up with him this past summer, but it didn't happen and now never will. His journal of his treatment for his illness, always written in a clear matter-of-fact way, with good humour and no trace of self-pity, should serve as an inspiration to us all.
Walk, on, my friend, you will be missed by all who knew you. One of life's true gentlemen.
I had read that friend named Charlie had died, and I wondered if it was the same Charlie who I saw on my friends' sites on Multiply. I see to my sadness he is. Perhaps his spirit will linger over the hollows of Derbyshire and the memory of him will warm his friends' hearts.
ReplyDeleteHe was a very popular person, liked by everyone who knew him. He will surely be remembered fondly :-))

DeleteMitch, I'm thinking of walking one of CHarlie's walks on 15 Aug next year (Charlie's birthday). Perhaps you'd like to come along?
ReplyDeleteHi Neil. I think that sounds like a great idea. I won't know yet whether I'd be able to make that date (work and all that), but please keep me informed of plans in case I am able to.
