Avon Valley, Dorset

This is another set of photos from my recent trip to the South Coast of England to visit my online friend Baz. These were taken at the Avon Valley country park, a large area of heathland, woodland and lakes, criss-crossed with many walking and cycling tracks. Any of you familiar with Baz's photography will recognise the area immediately.  Unusually for me, these are mainly scenery shots....hardly a macro in sight!!! (OK, there are few, so shoot me!!) LOL.  As always I've chosen a few favourites from the set and then posted a Flickr slideshow at the bottom of the post showing the entire set.

    1. Thanks Kathy. I think Baz referred to them as 'shelf mushrooms' but I wouldn't know if they are edible or not. My knowledge of fungi is pretty limited.

  5. I thoroughly enjoyed the slideshow Mitch and and the carved snake has to be my favourite, but then the pinecones were great too with their texture. The tree mushroom is a beauty, the mushroom almost looked eatherical. I could go on and on. LOL

Let's face it they are ALL beauties in their own way. Even to the aeroplane!

    1. Thanks Shayna. I think that wood-carving is supposed to be some kind of small lizard that is a protected species in that area. A sand-lizard, maybe? I'd have to check with Baz, he know the area a lot better. Yes, the pinecones make great 'texture' shots.

  6. Great that you and Baz met up, its really good when these 'online' relationships grow into actual meting in person, bet you both had a brilliant time. And the photos are amazing, I like the fungus, its quite unusual looking. Of course the water with all the reflections are my favourites, I love scenes like that.
Good slide show too, I've done a couple of those, it really is a good way to show off the photos.

    1. Hi Loretta. Yes, it's great to get to meet up with online friends in person. This is the second time I've visited Baz. Last year while Joanne was over, we both went for a visit. I'd love to meet more of my online friends. Glad you enjoyed the photos and slideshow. As you know, I used to post entire albums over on Multiply but since coming over to Blogger I've found the format of a few fave shots plus a slideshow much easier and folks seem to prefer it.

  7. Very beautiful shots, Mitch! That of the funguss is my favourite. The small-sized one resembles a silkworm cocoon....

  13. Such a wonderful trip, did recognise a bit of the scenery, a lovely way to show off photos that slide show, must try to figure that one out.

Had no idea shelf mushrooms could be edible, they seem to grow very nicely on our Beech trees, now who in their right mind plant Beech trees in an African garden?? They are coming out as soon as I can kick the man's butt into gear.

I loved all the photos, a favourite?? Blue Lake maybe or the "Through the wire" is marvellous, reminding me of the stream running through our Kloof Mountain, where they put up wire to stop the kids from going in.

    1. Thanks Marianne. If you have a Flickr account putting a slideshow into a Blogger post is really simple. Let me know if you want some instructions. I'm really not sure about if those mushrooms/fungi are edible. I'd ask an expert if I were you!!! LOL.

  14. These are fantastic shots, Mitch. I love the seed pod and the grassy edge of the water the most. And, of course, the folk art lady! She made me smile.
