Images And Words 197: Ingenious Inventions

It's Week 197 of IMAGES AND WORDS. This week our host is Anders, who has chosen the theme of 'Ingenious Inventions'.

My first thought, of course, was computers, but someone else has already used that, so I'm going with another invention instead. Actually mine is a collection of inventions, so to speak.

I've loved movies all my life, since I was a child. When I lived in the big city, I lived less than half a mile from a 12 screen multiplex, and I'd go as much as two or three times a week. Since I've been living here in the far west of Wales, the closest decent cinema is a round trip of 60 miles away. So movie watching is now done mainly at home, using my chosen invention: the 'home cinema system', comprising, DVD/Blu-Ray player and discs, and large flat-screen TV.

  1. Mr. Swiss also had some sort of complicated sysem for our DVDs etc. I don't think I will ever understand it- Even the tv bloke said it is something special. Anyhow I love your photo, a very good composition. I should have brought the tin opener, then you could have had the computer, but this is much more interesting.

    1. Thanks Pat. I'm really pleased with how this photo came out, I'm sure my computer shot would not have been as interesting..

  8. You made a great presentation here Mitch...really good.
You have a fine collection there and I suppose you don't really need to attend the Cinema too often when it is all at your finger tips there.
I am sure there are millions of people who would share your love of the Cinema and Home theatre systems, I being one of them.

  9. You're right, Mitch - many modern inventions are actually not very interesting photogenically. Love you choice and composition though!

  10. I love your collections. The DVD for music and for movies
was a great invention. Although I still enjoy listening to the old tube amplifiers with the scratchy records.
I love movies too, but music and photography head the list.
    Great presentation.

  11. Really cool, Mitch! I have to agree, lol, although I have a big hang up when it comes to mathematics. It's funny how girls weren't expected to learn math when I was young. We were expected to become mothers and housewives. It's going to be my biggest obstacle when I start college this year.

I love the composition. I'm a big Woody fan, too. This would make a great poster! I was just wondering if posters are as popular now as they were when I was a teenager. I had every inch of wall space in my bedroom covered with posters. It may still be a booming business for all I know.

    1. Thanks Debby. I was never much good at math myself!! Yeah, I remember having posters galore as a teenager. Do they still have them? I'm not sure!!

  12. I rarely buy DVDs anymore or even BluRay discs. My favorite invention is the record player, and originally, Edison's gramophone. I just bought a stack of 78s at the local antique shop the other day. lol!

Back to movies...what about Netflix? Streaming movies and TV programs via your flat screen TV or computer and even hand held device! Lovely! I've discovered Jeffrey Brett as Sherlock Holmes! I love it!

    Great post, btw.
